The Solomon Islands Democratic Party under the CARE Coalition has launched their candidate’s campaigns on Ulawa Island in the Makira Ulawa Province.
The launch at Aroaha community was attended by the political party’s wing leader, Mr. Mathew Wale, who arrived with their candidate, Mr. George Titiulu.
During the launch, Solomon Islands Democratic Party candidate George Titiulu highlighted the significance of the occasion, emphasizing the presence of the party leader, a unique occurrence.
“Looking back in history since gaining independence until today, we are privileged to have someone from the top being a political party leader to be with us today to share important information in terms of governance of the country,” Mr. Titiulu said.
He also highlighted the need for change in the Ulawa Ugi constituency, expressing concerns about the lack of meaningful constituency plans over the past 46 years.
In his address, party leader Mr. Wale expressed disappointment with the performance of past governments, encouraging voters to contemplate change in the forthcoming elections. However, the caretaker government has criticized Wale for his campaigning approach, urging him to refrain from petty politics and address issues like leaders would do.
George Titiulu, a former Public Servant, serving as Director for Environment Health in Honiara City Council is among nine other candidates vying for the Ulawa Ugi parliament seat, currently occupied by former Member of Parliament, William Bradford Marau.
Residents from Ulawa Island and its surrounding areas attended the launch, eager to witness the event and listen to figures such as former Opposition leader and SIDP’s party Leader, Mathew Wale, who also leads the CARE coalition.
