Valapata Youth Hub receives a 15HP outboard motor to improve transport and support youth development activities
Valapata, Vella la Vella Island, Western Province – The Valapata Youth Hub Center received a major boost to its operations following the official handover of a 15HP Outboard Motor (OBM) engine during a ceremony held at the Youth Hub Center.
The event was witnessed by members of the Valapata Youth Advocacy Association (VYAA), church leaders, community elders, and representatives of the Sirubai Voko Tribe Association (SVTA). The support was made possible through a small grant aimed at strengthening the Youth Hub’s logistical and transportation capacity to support activities and services delivered by the center. The hub center has also provided a wooden canoe as a community contribution towards the initiative.
Mr Ian Lelokana, VYAA Committee member, highlighted that the item will support the wider community by providing reliable and safe transport to its members.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, SVTA Advisor Mr. Jonathan Bukiri highlighted the importance of partnerships and collective effort in achieving community aspirations. He acknowledged the support provided through the Global Greengrants Fund and the role played by the Sirubai Board of Management in facilitating the project.
“This support is one of the pathways made possible through the Global Greengrants Fund. The Sirubai Board of Management facilitated this project, and today we are witnessing the result of our commitment and hard work. By ourselves we cannot go far, but together as a group we can achieve great things. This handover is evidence of what can be accomplished through unity and collaboration,” Mr. Bukiri said.
Representing the Valapata Youth Hub, Mrs. Ruth Lelokana described the occasion as a historic moment for her family and the wider community. She reflected on the vision of the late Lelokana, who had long dreamed of seeing such a development benefit the people of Valapata.
“This is a historic day for our family and community. The late Lelokana had a vision, but he was unable to see it fulfilled. Today, through his children and the support of the Sirubai Board of Management, that vision has become a reality. We are grateful for this support, which will help us serve the people of Valapata and surrounding communities.”
Mrs. Lelokana further described the new engine as a “newborn baby” for the community, emphasizing that it would help address transportation challenges and improve access to services and opportunities for local youth and residents.
During the ceremony, Rev. Brown Jepa encouraged the community to remain thankful to God for the blessing received.
“Everything we have on earth is temporary, so when we receive blessings such as this, we must remember the Lord and give thanks for His goodness. I acknowledge the Sirubai Board of Management for allowing this blessing to flow through you. Blessings come through those who have a heart for serving people. Continue the good work, and may the Lord bless you,” Rev. Jepa said.
The handover of the 15HP OBM engine marks an important milestone for the Valapata Youth Hub Center, strengthening its ability to support youth development initiatives, community outreach activities, and transportation needs across the surrounding communities.
