Team Solomon names 13 athletes for Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and announces a new Chef de Mission ahead of the event.
Team Solomon has officially unveiled its “Meet the Athletes” campaign, introducing the 13 athletes who will represent Solomon Islands at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The team includes athletes competing across Athletics, Boxing, Judo, Swimming, Para Powerlifting, and Weightlifting, highlighting the range and development of Solomon Islands’ sporting talent.
With preparations entering their final stages, Team Solomon has also announced a change to its leadership delegation.
Chef de Mission Michael Chan has withdrawn from the Games due to unforeseen family commitments beyond his control.
Team Solomon acknowledged Mr. Chan’s contribution and commitment throughout the preparation period, expressing appreciation for his service and wishing him and his family well.
To ensure continuity ahead of the Games, Naoyuki Fujiyama has been appointed as the new Chef de Mission. Mr. Fujiyama brings extensive international sporting experience and leadership, having served as a respected Lead Technical Official.
General Team Manager Simon Chottu said the “Meet the Athletes” initiative aims to introduce the national team members to Solomon Islanders and share their sporting journeys ahead of the Games.
“Every athlete has worked tirelessly to earn the honour of representing Solomon Islands. They are not only competing for medals, but also carrying the hopes, pride and spirit of our nation,” Mr. Chottu said.
He also welcomed Mr. Fujiyama to the leadership team and thanked Mr. Chan for his commitment and contribution to Team Solomon’s preparations.
The “Meet the Athletes” series will feature individual profiles of each athlete, providing an opportunity for the public to learn more about their backgrounds, achievements, and ambitions as they prepare for Glasgow 2026.
Team Solomon also recognised the support of the Solomon Islands Government, Ministry of Home Affairs, supporting ministries, National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI), National Sports Council, national federations, coaches, officials, sponsors, families, and supporters who have contributed to the team’s participation.
As the countdown to Glasgow 2026 continues, Team Solomon is calling on Solomon Islanders at home and abroad to support the national delegation.
