Qatar this week announced scholarships for two Pacific students to study aviation from September 2026, with two more places planned for 2027.
The announcement was made during the Fourth Regional Aviation Ministers Meeting (RAMM4), where development partners outlined support aimed at strengthening aviation capacity across Pacific Island countries.
Qatar said the two selected students will attend an aviation academy in the Gulf state beginning in September 2026. An additional two scholarships are expected to be offered in 2027, providing further opportunities for Pacific students seeking careers in the aviation sector.
Singapore also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting aviation training programmes in the Pacific, continuing its engagement in technical and professional capacity-building initiatives for the region.
Meanwhile, the World Bank signalled interest in assisting with future aviation-related projects, indicating potential support for efforts aimed at improving aviation infrastructure, safety oversight and workforce development.
The scholarship opportunities and development assistance announcements formed part of broader discussions among Pacific aviation ministers and partners on strengthening the sector’s long-term sustainability, safety and connectivity.
Pacific countries continue to face challenges in maintaining aviation services because of their geographic isolation, limited human resources and high operating costs, making training and capacity development a key priority for the region.
