MPNSCS clarifies Police Academy site works, confirming geotechnical surveys and no immediate officer evictions
Honiara, 28 July 2026: The Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services (MPNSCS) and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) are clarifying recent media reports regarding the development of the Police Academy at Rove.
The Ministry confirms that activities undertaken at the site on Thursday, 23 July 2026 were geotechnical investigations. These are part of the engineering and design process for the proposed new RSIPF Police Academy. The works were preliminary only and did not involve any demolition.
The Ministry also reassures serving officers, their families and the public that there are no immediate evictions associated with these investigations.
A relocation plan has been in place since notices were issued in February 2026. Affected officers have been provided with relocation options, including accommodation under the Public Servants Rental Scheme and available police staff housing. Renovation works on the first eight vacant staff houses are currently underway to support this transition.
The MPNSCS and RSIPF remain committed to working closely with affected officers and their families to ensure the relocation process is respectful, orderly and well-coordinated, with due regard for their welfare.
The new RSIPF Police Academy is a flagship national project delivered through the Solomon Islands–Australia partnership. It will provide modern training facilities to strengthen police capability, enhance professional standards, and support the long-term development of policing in the Solomon Islands.
The Ministry acknowledges that redevelopment projects can raise concerns. Any affected officer is encouraged to raise questions or grievances through the established RSIPF chain of command and internal grievance mechanisms. These processes are in place to ensure matters are addressed fairly and on time.
MPNSCS remains committed to maintaining open communication with officers, their families and the public, and will continue to provide updates as the Police Academy project progresses.
