Board highlights achievements, cooperation with New Zealand, and successful management during Pacific Games.
The Solomon Islands Airports Corporation Limited (SIACL) celebrated its first anniversary on 8 October 2024 at the New Zealand High Commission in Honiara. The Solomon Islands and New Zealand governments provided grant funding to set up SIACL. The corporation now operates airports across the country.
SIACL started on 1 October 2023. The Board of Directors and management team focus on improving airport infrastructure and services. They aim to provide safe, secure, and efficient operations.
A Board of Directors oversees SIACL’s activities. Initially, an interim board guided the setup. SIACL will soon take full responsibility for aviation services. The Ministry of Communication and Aviation will keep its policy role.

New Zealand High Commissioner Jonathan Schwass praised SIACL’s progress. He emphasized New Zealand’s involvement since 2011. “We are pleased to see SIACL’s achievements in just one year,” said Schwass. “Congratulations to the government, the Board, and the management.”
McKinnie Dentana, the Permanent Secretary of Finance and Treasury, also praised SIACL’s progress. He expressed optimism about its future growth.
David Wright, Chairman of the SIACL Board, thanked the CEO and management team for their hard work. He reaffirmed the board’s commitment to providing quality airport services.
SIACL CEO Mike Clay thanked the staff for managing the transition from the Ministry of Communication and Aviation. He highlighted their success during the 2023 Pacific Games, the busiest time in Honiara International Airport’s history. Clay also thanked the Board for its support.
The SIACL Board remains committed to improving airport services for the people of Solomon Islands.
