Minister Kumi showcases new education resources, boosting teaching and learning in Solomon Islands schools
MINISTER for Education and Human Resource Development Hon. Stephen Kumi has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to transforming education, with the official showcase of new learner and teacher materials in Auckland.
Minister Kumi said the initiative marks a significant step forward in improving teaching and learning outcomes across Solomon Islands.
“Today’s event reflects our shared commitment to the children of Solomon Islands and demonstrates what can be achieved through strong leadership and partnership,” he said.
Under the Government’s Free Education Policy, the Ministry is delivering 32 curriculum resources for Years 1 to 8 across core subjects, with more than 533,000 books to be distributed to schools nationwide.
Minister Kumi acknowledged the long-standing challenges faced by schools and teachers due to limited learning materials.
“For too long, teachers have had to improvise and students have had to share resources. This initiative is about ensuring every child has access to quality learning materials,” he said.
The Minister highlighted that the project was made possible through the Education Sector Support Programme.
It is supported by the Governments of New Zealand and Australia with an investment of SBD 12.57 million.
Minister Kumi acknowledged the Government of New Zealand for its continued partnership in strengthening education in Solomon Islands.
He also acknowledged Blue Star Company for delivering the printing project.
Minister Kumi reaffirmed the Ministry’s focus on strengthening curriculum implementation, improving teacher effectiveness and expanding access to quality education nationwide.
“Together, we are investing in our children’s future and building a stronger Solomon Islands,” he said.
