Prime Minister Matthew Wale congratulates CBSI on its 50th anniversary, praising its resilience and service
PRIME Minister Hon. Matthew Wale has congratulated the Central Bank of Solomon Islands (CBSI) on the occasion of its 50th Anniversary.
Speaking as Guest of Honour at the official Golden Jubilee ceremony held at the Heritage Park Hotel, the Prime Minister conveyed the GREAT Coalition Government’s deepest congratulations to CBSI for five decades of dedicated service to the nation.
“On behalf of the Government and the people of Solomon Islands, I extend our heartfelt congratulations on this Golden Jubilee. If the next fifty years are built on the same foundations of foresight, integrity, and unwavering commitment to national prosperity, then our economic future is in capable and trusted hands,” Prime Minister Wale said.
The Prime Minister reflected on the foresight of the institution’s founders, noting that CBSI was established even before independence to safeguard the nation’s monetary future.
“Before our flag was raised and before our Constitution was signed, visionary Solomon Islanders chose to build an institution that would outlast any individual, any government, and any crisis. Today, we stand as proof of that decision,” he said.
Prime Minister Wale acknowledged the resilience of CBSI through decades of national and global challenges, including economic shocks and periods of social unrest.
“They could not have foreseen the cyclones, the tensions, or the global crises ahead. Yet they built an institution strong enough to endure and wise enough to evolve through each challenge,” he added.
Prime Minister Wale emphasized that the Golden Jubilee is not only a celebration of an institution, but also of the people it serves.
“This milestone belongs to every Solomon Islander, the farmer who depends on a stable currency, the family whose savings rely on a sound financial system, and the entrepreneur whose confidence to invest depends on economic stability,” he said.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to the generations of staff who have contributed to CBSI’s legacy over the past five decades.
The Prime Minister said the anniversary theme, “50 Years of Resilience and Progressive Development,” reflects the character of the institution.
“It speaks of an institution tested by adversity, strengthened through experience, and committed to continuous progress. That resilience was hard-won, and it deserves to be celebrated with the seriousness it commands,” he said.
