Eight RSIPF officers completed underwater EOD diver training to strengthen explosive ordnance response skills.
Eight members of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal Department have completed a U.S.-supported Underwater Explosive Remnants of War Military Diver and Military Diver Supervisor training program.
The training was designed to strengthen the department’s underwater explosive ordnance disposal capability by providing officers with specialised diving skills and knowledge of equipment used to respond to underwater explosive threats in Solomon Islands’ maritime environment.
A certificate presentation was held on 15 May, attended by U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Dan O’Hara and RSIPF representatives.
Director of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Clifford Tunuki acknowledged the training support, noting that the enhanced capability will assist the department in addressing unexploded ordnance and supporting other policing activities, including underwater evidence recovery.
The training forms part of ongoing cooperation between Solomon Islands and the United States in addressing the legacy of unexploded ordnance from World War II and strengthening safety and operational capacity in the maritime environment.
