Trades Transformation Company maintains West Kwaio roads, improving access to schools, churches and plantations
Local contractor Trades Transformation Company has demonstrated their social obligation for West Kwaio communities by maintaining their access roads to plantations, churches and schools.
TTC lead engineer Raymond Steven said last week their team carried out road maintenance for the South Seas Evangelical Church-managed Su’u High School at West Kwaio, Malaita Province.
“Our crew does grading, supplies gravel materials, and does spreading and compaction.”
“Though this is not covered in our project scope, our crew with a good heart for the people have been conducting this type of assistance to other communities and households since working on this project.”
TTC has been working on this 33 km road maintenance since last year, spanning from Maoa in West Kwaio to Hauhui in West Are’are.

Mr Steven exclusively said their crew have also assisted a few farmers on this route by maintaining their inroads to plantations and even churches by levelling grounds for expansion.
He adds that their team is now reaching Afutara, which is 3.5 km before the end of the road (Hauhui).
“We anticipate good weather so we can reach Heo Bridge and get this contract done,” the engineer said.
TTC is also responsible for two other road improvement projects in Malaita.
I) Tar sealing the first 5 kilometres of the road from Kwaibala to Oibola.
II) Fulisango Road Maintenance and Repairs.
The Ministry’s Transport Infrastructure Management Services Division unit based in Auki continues to provide overall supervision to this roadworks and ensure quality standards are maintained throughout all phases.
These Malaita Province road improvements are funded through the National Transport Fund – a Solomon Islands and Australian government contribution.
This complements the government’s National Transport Plan (NTP), which aims to improve community road infrastructure – accessibility, safety, and efficiency – to foster social and economic development.
