Battle of the Solomons boxing event set for 8–9 July in Honiara, uniting Solomon Islands and Bougainville fighters.

The Solomon Islands Amateur Boxing Association (SIABA) is proud to announce the Battle of the Solomons, a thrilling international boxing competition between the Solomon Islands and Bougainville, set for 8 and 9 July 2025 at the Multi-Purpose Hall in Honiara. The event will mark the Solomon Islands’ 47th Independence Celebrations with two nights of high-octane boxing action.
Patrick Morris, President of SIABA, expressed his excitement: “We are absolutely excited to bring the Battle of the Solomons to the Solomon Islands public. This will be an absolute showdown of skills and guts as Bougainville brings nine of their champions to fight the best of Solomon Islands. SIABA has endorsed the competition and is supporting HABA as the Host Association.”
Llane Manau (Mrs), President of the Bougainville Amateur Boxing Association (BABA), shared her gratitude: “We are very excited to come over for this historic competition. Our Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) is fully supportive through our Community Development Department, and we are very grateful to Community Development Secretary Mr. Medley Koito for supporting the team.
We also thank SIABA and HABA for this program, and we hope it becomes an annual or bi-annual event, even hosting the Solomon Islands boxing squads in Bougainville in the future. We are traditional and cultural brothers and sisters, and it only makes sense to coordinate and develop our shared passion for boxing through competitions like these.”
Waisea Bainivalu Jnr, Vice-President of the Honiara Amateur Boxing Association (HABA) and Chairman of the Program, called on the public to support the event: “HABA is thrilled to bring this competition to Solomon Islands, and our boxers are ready to rumble. We will have about 20 bouts. Half of those bouts will feature HABA club novices—our young boxers entering the ring for the first time—and the other half will see Bougainville’s champions take on Solomon Islands’ best boxers. We urge the public to bring your families and children down to the Multi-Purpose Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday. Gates will open at 4:00 p.m., with competitions expected to roll out at 6:00 p.m.” This historic event promises to strengthen sporting ties, celebrate cultural bonds, and inspire a new generation of young boxers across both regions. Ticket for entry will be sold at the gate on competition nights, and all are encouraged to join the festivities.
