PM Manele reaffirms law and order at Police Commissioner Vaevaso parade, stressing security for stability and growth
Honiara, Solomon Islands, Wednesday 29 April 2026 – Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele today reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to law and order and national stability during the commissioning parade of Police Commissioner Ian Vaevaso at the Rove Parade Ground.
The Prime Minister described the occasion as a significant moment for the country, reflecting continuity in leadership and public trust in the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).
“Today is a reaffirmation of our collective resolve to uphold law and order as the foundation of national progress,” he said.
Prime Minister Manele congratulated Commissioner Vaevaso on his appointment, noting that his leadership comes at a critical time requiring integrity, discipline and strategic direction. He also acknowledged Acting Commissioner Mathias Lenialu for maintaining stability during the transition period.
He said the appointment of a Solomon Islander to the role reflects growing confidence in national institutions and the continued strengthening of sovereign leadership.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to the men and women of the RSIPF for their service, emphasising their vital role in maintaining peace, protecting communities and upholding the rule of law.
Highlighting the link between security and development, he said effective policing is essential to economic growth, investor confidence and national wellbeing.
“Without security, development cannot endure,” he said.

As Solomon Islands approaches key milestones, including its 50th anniversary of independence in 2028 and graduation from Least Developed Country status in 2027, the Prime Minister stressed the need for a capable, disciplined and trusted police force.
He called on the Commissioner to strengthen discipline and accountability within the Force and to lead efforts to address emerging challenges such as transnational crime and illicit drugs through improved capability and partnerships.
Prime Minister Manele also acknowledged the support of regional and international partners in strengthening the RSIPF and emphasised that security remains a shared responsibility.
He urged all citizens to work with police to uphold the law and contribute to a safe and secure society.
The Prime Minister called on all members of the RSIPF to unite behind their new Commissioner and continue efforts to reform and strengthen the Force for the future.
