Solomon Islands presents credentials to Saudi Arabia as Ambassador Cornelius Walegerea begins his role as Non-Resident Ambassador
The Solomon Islands Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Cornelius Walegerea, officially presented a copy of his Letter of Credentials to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh on Monday, 15 December 2025.
The presentation formally accredits Ambassador Walegerea as the Non-Resident Ambassador of Solomon Islands to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Ambassador Walegerea is based at the Solomon Islands Embassy in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Deputy Minister for Protocol Affairs, Mr. Abdulmajeed Al-Smari, received the copy of the Letter of Credentials on behalf of Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Upon receiving the Letter of Credentials, Mr. Al-Smari welcomed and congratulated Ambassador Walegerea on his appointment as the first Non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Solomon Islands to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He wished the Ambassador success in carrying out his duties, particularly in strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.
The Deputy Minister also highlighted the significance of the ceremony, noting that it symbolizes the continued friendship and cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Solomon Islands, both now and in the future.
In response, Ambassador Walegerea expressed appreciation for the support provided by the Government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Solomon Islands over the years, particularly for the successful hosting of the 2023 Pacific Games and cooperation in the renewable energy sector. He reaffirmed the Solomon Islands Government’s commitment to working closely with Saudi Arabia on issues of common interest and areas of mutual benefit.
Ambassador Walegerea will present his original Letter of Credentials once the official date is confirmed by the Saudi Royal Court, which serves as the Executive Office of the King.
Solomon Islands established diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on 17 July 2014.
