PM Matthew Wale urges stronger child protection, education access and greater collaboration with Save the Children.
Prime Minister Matthew Wale today received a courtesy visit from Save the Children Solomon Islands Country Director, Ms Tory Clawson.
Ms Clawson acknowledged the GREAT Coalition Government’s strong focus on children and young people.
She noted that they form a significant part of the Government’s policy priorities.
The Country Director also welcomed the Government’s free education policy, emphasising the importance of ensuring that every child has access to education and that such a policy must begin at some point.
Ms Clawson updated the Prime Minister on Save the Children’s SOLKAS programme and its ongoing work with communities across the country.
She also invited Prime Minister Wale to join Save the Children’s 40th anniversary celebrations and World Children’s Day activities in November this year.
In response, Prime Minister Wale acknowledged the importance of improving access to basic education, particularly for children living in rural and remote communities.
The Prime Minister also stressed the need for greater collaboration to address violence against children and strengthen the protection of children within Solomon Islands communities.
Prime Minister Wale further encouraged Save the Children to explore working with the National Parliament to establish an annual Children’s Parliament alongside the existing Youth Parliament programme.
“Children are honest speakers and it would be really good to listen to them,” the Prime Minister said.
