CAUSE II launches kerb painting works in Honiara to improve road safety and traffic visibility
HONIARA, Solomon Islands – KERB Painting works officially commenced on Monday, 4 May, as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and visibility across Honiara.
Under the CAUSE II Project, a team has now began working on round-abouts and key entry and exit junctions to repaint kerbs and traffic islands. The main areas of painting include; Kukum round-about, Saint Nicholas entry and exit junction, Kola ridge entry and exit junction and the Honiara City Council (HCC) round-about. These improvements which will be carried out the next 20 days will help guide motorists, enhance pedestrian safety, and create a cleaner, more organized road environment.
The kerb painting works continue under Component 2: Safe and Inclusive Communities of the CAUSE II Project and is delivered by participants of the Redi4Waka program, who are applying their training in real work settings while earning an income.
Kerb painting may seem simple, but it plays an important role in: Improving visibility for drivers, especially at night and in poor weather, reducing accidents at busy intersections and crossings, and making Honiara City safer and more accessible for everyone.
Motorists are therefore advised to slow down and take extra care when approaching work areas.
Implemented by the Solomon Islands Government, the CAUSE II Project is supported by the World Bank and the Australian Government through the PNG and Pacific Islands Umbrella Facility Multi-Donor Trust Fund. The project aims to improve urban infrastructure, strengthen climate resilience, and expand employment opportunities across key urban centres in Solomon Islands.
