Central Makira farmers receive Chinese-donated farming tools to boost cocoa and coconut production and rural livelihoods.
The Central Makira Constituency Office has expressed profound gratitude to the People’s Republic of China (PRC), through its Embassy in Solomon Islands, for its generous donation of farming tools and equipment to cocoa and coconut farmers in the constituency.
The assistance includes 66 wheelbarrows, 66 bush knives, 66 brush knives, 66 spades, and 5 cartoon polybags of 33,000 pieces. It is aimed at boosting agricultural production, particularly cocoa and coconut – thereby strengthening the local economy and improving rural livelihoods.
At a recent handover ceremony, Constituency Development Officer (CDO) Gravis Tahiri commended the PRC for its continued support to the constituency and to Solomon Islands’ broader development goals in agriculture, infrastructure, health, education, and rural livelihoods.
He said the assistance is a welcome boost not only to the constituency office but to farmers themselves, enhancing their capacity and productivity.
Mr Gravis added that the support reflects the strong partnership and enduring friendship between Solomon Islands and the People’s Republic of China, with tangible benefits reaching rural communities.
“This support will directly improve the lives of our farmers by providing the right tools and equipment for their farming activities. Many of our rural people rely heavily on agriculture, and this assistance gives them greater economic opportunity and improved livelihoods,” Mr Gravis said.
He added that the constituency remains committed to ensuring development assistance is channelled through a fair and transparent process, directed toward projects with lasting, meaningful impact on people’s lives.
Representing the Chinese Embassy in Solomon Islands, Secretary Mr Wang Jinzhao, said the PRC was pleased to provide the support.
He reaffirmed that the Embassy remains committed to working closely with Solomon Islands to support its development across all sectors, and to jointly build a China–Solomon Islands community with a shared future in the new era.
