PRC Embassy supports rural livelihoods with equipment donation to VATUD and Aoke-Langalanga constituencies under MRD programs
The VATUD Constituency (TVC) and Aoke-Langalanga Constituency (ALC) offices of the Ministry of Rural Development (MRD) have expressed appreciation to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Embassy in Honiara for its continued support in enhancing rural livelihoods through a donation of essential equipment and supplies.
During a brief handover ceremony, Justin Tanema, Constituency Development Officer (CDO) for TVC, conveyed appreciation on behalf of the people of the constituency and their Member of Parliament, Freda Tuki Soriocomua, for the timely support provided through the donated materials.
The materials, valued at SBD 100,000, will be used to construct 50 solar lights on Tikopia Island. The installations will focus on the recently constructed footpath between Te Karoa, Terano School and Namo Village, as well as along routes from Uta to Ravenga and Ratia to Marae Lasi.
The donation includes:
- 33 solar lights (200 watts)
- 17 solar lights (300 watts)
- 63 bags of 40kg cement
- 31 galvanized pipes (4” x 6m)
Similarly, David Farobo Tomani, CDO for Aoke-Langalanga Constituency, on behalf of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Matthew Wale, also thanked the PRC for its continued support and contribution toward improving community livelihoods.
CDO Tomani noted that the constituency is actively engaged in a seaweed farming project aimed at boosting income and providing sustainable livelihood opportunities for coastal and artificial island communities within the Langalanga Lagoon, particularly in Ward 30.
The total value of the PRC contribution to the Aoke-Langalanga project was SBD 100,000.
During the handover, the PRC emphasized the importance of enhancing rural livelihoods to support development, resilience, and quality of life.

We are committed to support small infrastructures and contribute to rural development, and capacity building as part of our strategic partnership. PRC’s support will always work towards supporting the Solomon Islands NDS 2026–2035 with the vision of ‘Improving the Social and Economic Livelihoods of All Solomon Islanders.’”
The MRD also acknowledged the PRC’s ongoing commitment to developing rural livelihoods and improving living standards across the country.
The Ministry encouraged constituency offices to ensure the assistance is utilized transparently and effectively for the benefit of their communities. As Solomon Islands continues its development efforts, support from development partners such as the PRC remains significant.
The MRD said it looks forward to further collaboration with the PRC and other partners to promote sustainable development across rural communities in Solomon Islands.
