Six Candidates Shine Amidst Fierce Competition in East Makira’s Crowded Political Landscape

The open forum held for candidates in East Makira was considered a success, despite the low turnout, with only six out of the 17 candidates vying for national parliament attending the event. Hosted at Napii village, the forum aimed to provide voters with an opportunity to gain insights into the vision and mission of the candidates contesting for the national parliament in East Makira constituency.
Following the forum, voters expressed their concerns about the challenging task of choosing the best candidate for their constituency. They noted that all six candidates who participated in the forum presented themselves genuinely well, making the decision even more difficult for the upcoming April 17th elections.
East Makira constituency stands out for having the highest number of candidates, including two women competing for seats in the national parliament. Unfortunately, none of the female candidates were present at the forum.
The six candidates who participated in the forum include former MP Alfred Ghiro, former permanent secretary in the Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening Stanley Pirione, former international NGO staff Jack Martin, former HCC Staff Fred Warereau, Frank Wetara and Nemesio Kinika.
East Makira has a little over 10,000 registered voters.
