Concrete works near Honiara’s Hot Bread Roundabout near completion, with two-lane section set to reopen soon.
Concrete works on the busbays and parking areas on the landside section of the road between the Honiara City Council (HCC) Roundabout and Hot Bread Roundabout are approaching completion, marking another important step in the ongoing upgrade of Honiara’s road network.
The remaining works have experienced some delays due to the need to address existing utility services along the road corridor, including Solomon Telekom lines. These utility issues have required coordination and adjustments to ensure the services are properly attended to before the road works can be fully completed.
Despite the delays, construction activities are now nearing completion. Once the remaining works are finalised, the two-lane section will be opened to traffic and become fully operational, improving traffic movement along this busy corridor.
Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID), Mr. Mike Qaqara, said the Ministry appreciates the patience and understanding of road users while the remaining works are being completed.
“We understand the inconvenience caused by the delays, but it is important that the existing utility services are properly addressed before the road section is opened. The works are now almost complete, and once the remaining activities are finished, the two-lane section will be operational. We thank the public for their patience and cooperation during this important road upgrade.”
The completion of this section will improve traffic flow and provide a safer and more efficient connection between the HCC Roundabout and Hot Bread Roundabout, while contributing to the broader improvement of Honiara’s road network.
The road improvement works are being implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) through the Lands and Maritime Connectivity Project (LMCP), with financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Solomon Islands.
