SINYC launches key policies to strengthen accountability, governance, and youth development nationwide

The Solomon Islands National Youth Congress (SINYC) has officially launched a suite of new internal policy documents designed to formalize its operations, strengthen organizational accountability, and drive the country’s youth development agenda forward.
The comprehensive framework—which includes a Financial Policy and Accounting Procedures Manual, a Procurement Policy, a Human Resources Policy, a Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH) Policy, and a Child & Youth Safeguarding Policy—was launched on Sunday, May 23, 2026.
The documents were subsequently endorsed by members, affiliates, and representatives from ten Provincial Youth Councils (PYCs) during the SINYC Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
Speaking in an interview with Tavuli News, SINYC General Secretary Jossie Anne Ashley highlighted the launch as a critical milestone, addressing structural gaps that have hindered the organization in the past.
“Coming into this role, one of the primary gaps we identified was a lack of standardized operational documents,” Ms. Ashley said. “While there are many other policies we hope to implement in the future, these foundational documents are essential because they establish internal trust and ensure we remain fully accountable.”
Ms. Ashley emphasized that the new policies will significantly elevate the organization’s professional profile, making it a more reliable and structured partner for both local and international stakeholders.
“These policies will go a long way in strengthening the capacity of the National Youth Congress and, by extension, bolstering our collective partnership efforts,” she noted. “They strengthen our organizational profile, and we can now use this framework to help our Provincial Youth Councils structure themselves properly as well.”
Given that the Solomon Islands possesses a predominantly young demographic, establishing a robust, transparent, and safe operational framework is considered vital for the long-term success of national youth development initiatives.
With these structural reforms now legally endorsed, SINYC is better positioned to secure long-term partnerships and deliver accountable programs for youth across all nine provinces including Honiara Youth Council.
