North Vella La Vella invests $2.7M in five water and sanitation projects to improve access for 4,000 residents.

The North Vella La Vella Constituency (NVC) in Western Province is investing $2.7 million in five new water supply and sanitation projects, aiming to improve the livelihoods of around 4,000 people.
Funding for these projects comes from the constituency’s $3.88 million 2024 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) budget under its Constituency Development Programme (CDP). Implementation began in late 2023 in partnership with local communities, marking a step toward improving living conditions in North Vella La Vella.
The beneficiary communities are Boro, Zararana, Karaka, Sibilado, and Karokesa.
Constituency Project Officer (CPO) Stephen Lupeqeto said this initiative is part of the constituency’s broader vision, led by Member of Parliament Clezy Rore, to provide reliable access to essential services, particularly clean water and sanitation.

“As of now, one community, Boro, has successfully completed its project. The remaining communities are actively progressing toward completion, with the final handover for all projects planned for later this year. This will be the first time these communities will have proper water supply, bringing accessible, clean, and safer water to their doorsteps,” Lupeqeto said.
He noted that many villagers face challenges due to the absence of nearby water sources, often walking long distances, especially in bad weather, to access water and sanitation facilities. Traditional sanitation methods also pose health and security risks, particularly for women and young girls at night.
“So, the NVC’s commitment under the leadership of Clezy Rore, MP, is to change the standard of living for our people. Access to clean water and proper sanitation is a fundamental right, and we are committed to making these services accessible to our communities in North Vella La Vella. This project is not just about infrastructure but about empowering our communities and ensuring a healthier community,” Lupeqeto said.

He added that with water supply now reaching the communities, residents can begin constructing proper sanitation facilities. Lupeqeto emphasized the NVC office’s commitment to completing the projects, ensuring that all five communities benefit from improved water and sanitation services. He said this will help reduce burdens on communities, improve health outcomes, and support sustainable development in the constituency.
