IFAD and MALD review AIMN Project progress, strengthening agriculture, nutrition and rural livelihoods in Solomon Islands
Officials from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) recently paid a courtesy call on the management of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MALD) to discuss the progress and implementation of the Agriculture Investment and Market Nutrition (AIMN) Project.
The meeting provided an opportunity for IFAD and MALD to exchange updates on the project’s ongoing activities and priorities, while reinforcing their shared commitment to supporting agricultural development and improving the livelihoods of rural communities.
Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration and ensuring the successful delivery of project objectives aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity, improving market access, promoting better nutrition, and creating sustainable economic opportunities for farming households in the project’s target provinces.
Speaking during the meeting, MALD Permanent Secretary Dr. Samson Viulu acknowledged the importance of the AIMN Project and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting its implementation. He emphasized that MALD will continue working closely with the AIMN Project Management Unit and development partners to achieve the project’s intended outcomes for beneficiary communities.
The meeting also reviewed the current status of project implementation and discussed key priorities for the months ahead. Both parties highlighted the importance of maintaining strong partnerships and coordinated efforts to advance sustainable agricultural development and food security in Solomon Islands.
Discussions further noted the challenges faced during the current quarter in completing the project’s baseline survey following the impacts of Tropical Cyclone Maila, which affected the target provinces of Western, Choiseul, and Isabel. Despite these challenges, project activities are expected to progress as field operations resume.
Both MALD and IFAD reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close collaboration to ensure the successful implementation of the AIMN Project and to deliver sustainable benefits to rural households and farming communities throughout Solomon Islands.
The AIMN project is valued around USD19 million and being implemented in the three provinces of Choiseul, Isabel and Western until 2030.
