Solomon Islands prepares to host 54th Pacific Islands Forum, uniting leaders for regional dialogue and solidarity.
Preparations are well underway for the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting, set to take place in Honiara later this year. As incoming Chair and host nation, the Solomon Islands is taking the lead in organizing the region’s most significant annual political event, which is expected to draw leaders and delegations from across the Blue Pacific.
Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele, who recently returned from the Pacific Islands Forum TROIKA Leaders Meeting in Nadi, Fiji, said the country is honoured to be at the helm of regional leadership during such a critical time.
“We are fully committed to hosting a successful and meaningful Forum. This is an opportunity to bring Pacific leaders together in the spirit of unity, dialogue, and collective action,” Prime Minister Manele said.
The Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), founded in 1971, plays a central role in shaping regional priorities, addressing climate change, promoting economic resilience, and safeguarding Pacific values and interests on the global stage.
Prime Minister Manele confirmed that Solomon Islands has submitted a proposed theme for this year’s Forum to the Forum Secretariat for consideration. Once endorsed by the Secretary General, formal invitations to Heads of Government and key regional stakeholders will be issued.
“We want this year’s theme to reflect the shared challenges and opportunities that bind us as a region. It must speak to the strength of Pacific solidarity and our shared future,” the Prime Minister added.
A national taskforce has been established to coordinate all aspects of the event — from security and logistics to protocol, media, and public engagement. Government ministries, provincial representatives, private sector partners, and community stakeholders are being mobilized to ensure Honiara is ready to host a high-level regional gathering.
The Forum will include a series of official meetings, bilateral sessions, civil society engagements, cultural showcases, and media briefings. Several leaders are expected to undertake bilateral visits to the Solomon Islands on the margins of the Forum, further enhancing diplomatic ties.
This marks the first time the Solomon Islands will host the Forum Leaders Meeting since 2005. The event presents an opportunity to not only reaffirm regional solidarity but also spotlight Solomon Islands’ progress, cultural richness, and vision for regional cooperation.
“We are ready to welcome our Pacific brothers and sisters to our shores. This Forum is not just for leaders — it is for all Solomon Islanders, and we want the nation to feel a sense of pride in playing host,” said Prime Minister Manele.
