Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele meets Malaita Premier to discuss Auki Road progress and key provincial priorities.
Honiara, Solomon Islands, Tuesday 7 April 2026 – Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele today received a courtesy visit from the Premier of Malaita Province, Elijah Asilaua, with discussions focusing on key provincial priorities, including progress on the Auki tarseal road project.
Premier Asilaua, accompanied by Provincial Minister for Agriculture John Tafiiru Daubo and Provincial Secretary Mr. Eric George Ongoa, briefed the Prime Minister on developments in the province and raised concerns regarding the timeline for completion of the Auki Road.
A key issue discussed was the need for timely coordination among relevant State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), particularly in relation to the relocation of infrastructure to allow construction works to progress as scheduled.
Prime Minister Manele acknowledged the concerns raised and emphasised the importance of collective action to ensure the project remains on track.
“The Auki Road is a priority infrastructure investment for Malaita Province and the country. It is important that all stakeholders work in a coordinated and timely manner to support its completion,” Prime Minister Manele said.
In response, the Prime Minister has directed that relevant stakeholders, including Solomon Power, Solomon Water, and Solomon Telekom Company Limited, convene urgently to address outstanding issues and ensure alignment moving forward.
Prime Minister Manele noted that the Government remains mindful of project timelines and the importance of meeting agreed deadlines, and is committed to minimising delays through effective coordination and adherence to established processes.
Discussions also touched on broader provincial matters, including ongoing planning by the Malaita Provincial Government towards its 50th Independence anniversary commemorations.
