Tavuli News has officially welcomed three (3) news interns — Damien Loe, Margret Nuake, and Stephen Kamoa — all students from the Solomon Islands National University’s (SINU) Department of Journalism and Media, under the Faculty of Humanities and Science. The internship program is designed to provide them with practical newsroom experience.
Running through December 2025, the internship offers these students the opportunity to work alongside Tavuli News reporters, participate in editorial meetings, and contribute to daily news production. This hands-on experience complements their academic studies and equips them with essential skills for future careers in journalism.
The initiative was developed by Tavuli News to nurture local talent and strengthen media professionalism in the Solomon Islands.
Lisa Osifelo, Managing Director of Tavuli News, said, “This internship program is our way of supporting the next generation of journalists. By giving students real newsroom experience, we’re helping them build the skills and understanding they need for this important work.”
After learning of this initiative, BBC Media Action extended support to Tavuli News by helping cover stipends and other costs associated with the internship. “We appreciate BBC Media Action’s support, which enables us to enhance the internship program by providing valuable resources that contribute to a more meaningful learning experience for the students,” Osifelo added.

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity, using media and communication to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. It partners with local organizations to strengthen journalism, improve access to information, and foster community engagement.
