Speaker reminds MPs they have two days to complete scrutiny of the 136-clause Public Service Bill 2025.
Speaker of the National Parliament, Patterson Oti, has reminded Members of Parliament that they have only today and tomorrow to complete deliberations on the Public Service Bill 2025, which is before the Committee of the Whole House.
The reminder follows delays in proceedings on Tuesday, when the Committee was interrupted in the afternoon due to the lack of quorum. As of Tuesday, the Committee had completed consideration of eight out of the bill’s 136 clauses, leaving 128 clauses to be examined before the end of this week.
Tavuli News notes that since Parliament resumed this month, the Speaker has on several occasions suspended proceedings for up to 15 minutes while waiting for the required quorum to be met.
The Public Service Bill 2025 seeks to reform the public service structure and processes. The Committee of the Whole House stage involves a detailed, clause-by-clause examination of the bill before it proceeds to its final reading and passage in Parliament.
