Solomon Islands PM meets Australian Defence Chief to discuss security, border support, and PIFLM preparations.

Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele received a courtesy call this morning from the Chief of Australia’s Defence Force, Admiral David Johnstone.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister acknowledged Australia’s ongoing support across various sectors, particularly in the area of security.
He thanked Australia for its assistance at the western border and emphasized the importance of integrating trade and immigration considerations into the planned infrastructure in that area. He highlighted the strategic significance of the Western Province, noting its role as a tourism hub and its hosting of key economic activities, including the Noro Cannery.
Manele also acknowledged Australia’s support for a proposed border facility in Temotu Province.
He further noted the value of ongoing training and development programs for the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), stating that these initiatives will play an important role as the RSIPF leads security operations during the upcoming Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting (PIFLM).
The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for Australia’s contributions to preparations for the PIFLM, noting that Australia is the largest contributor to the event. He also welcomed Australia’s offer to provide logistical support for the Leaders’ Retreat in Noro and confirmed that coordination would continue through the PIFLM National Organizing Committee.
In response, Admiral Johnstone reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to supporting Solomon Islands in the area of security and encouraged early communication of any additional needs ahead of the Forum.
