China donates $5 million in security to the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force in preparation for the upcoming Pacific Games in November.
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force has received aid in the form of security equipment and materials valued at 5 million dollars from the People’s Republic of China, in preparation for November’s Pacific Games. The donation, termed as a generous contribution, signifies the ongoing cooperation between the Solomon Islands and the People’s Republic of China, aimed at supporting the successful hosting of the Pacific Games.
During a ceremony at the Rove Police headquarters, witnessed by Prime Minister and Pacific Games Minister, Hon. Manasseh Sogavare MP, the donation was officially handed over to the local police force. The provided security equipment and materials are intended to enhance the technical capabilities and capacities of the RSIPF, ensuring a safe and sustainable environment for all participants, including athletes, visitors, and the local population. The donated security equipment, valued at 5 million dollars, comprises various items such as security clothing, shoes, unmanned aerial vehicles, inspection machines, metal detectors, video transmission systems, walkie-talkies, and handheld metal detectors.
Prime Minister Sogavare emphasized the preparatory efforts for the Pacific Games, mentioning the increased personnel support from the China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) and comprehensive security training conducted for RSIPF police officers by China’s Ministry of Public Security.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the assistance, highlighting the importance of keeping the country’s security measures up-to-date to meet the evolving demands of policing in the 21st century. The ongoing Police-to-Police Cooperation was acknowledged as a step towards future collaborations.
The Charg’e d’ affaires of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Ding Yonghua, expressed hope that the provided equipment would contribute to ensuring a secure and environmentally conscious Pacific Games. He reiterated that the cooperation between PRC and SI Police is founded on mutual respect and shared development goals, aiming to foster peace, security, and prosperity for both nations.
