Solomon Airlines revises routes from Australia and New Zealand to Vanuatu, adding services and adjusting schedules
Solomon Airlines has announced a new international schedule effective from 3 October 2025, focusing on routes between Australia, New Zealand, and Vanuatu to meet growing tourism demand.
The national carrier introduced flights from Auckland and Brisbane to Vanuatu last year following Air Vanuatu’s withdrawal from international services. With Air Vanuatu’s domestic operations now restored, Solomon Airlines will streamline its international schedules to improve connections for travellers to, from, and within Vanuatu.
“We are designing operations to best meet customer demand, especially for tourism development, that means schedules which allow a 7-night stay at primary destinations,” said Solomon Airlines Commercial Manager John Wopereis.
Under the revised schedule, the airline will reintroduce a Brisbane–Espiritu Santo–Brisbane service on Thursdays in both directions, allowing 7-night stays in Santo.
“With Air Vanuatu now restoring domestic service, we will also step back and withdraw Solomon Airlines flying the route between Santo and Port Vila,” Mr Wopereis said.
Other changes include:
- Increasing Auckland–Port Vila flights to three return services weekly
- Introducing a second Brisbane–Espiritu Santo service on Saturdays from 5 April 2026
- Adding a new Brisbane–Honiara Saturday service and ceasing Sunday services on the route
- Moving Brisbane–Auckland flights from Fridays to Sundays to maintain direct transit from Honiara
- Continuing the Auckland–Brisbane–Munda–Honiara Friday service unchanged
- Retaining the Honiara–Nadi Saturday and Nadi–Honiara Sunday services
- Ceasing Solomon Airlines-operated Honiara–Port Vila and Port Vila–Honiara flights from 1 October 2025, with passengers reaccommodated on Air Niugini codeshare flights
“Designing an optimal airline schedule is ongoing, it is a case of responding to customers’ needs and wants across the leisure, VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives), RSE seasonal workforce and business traveller markets,” Mr Wopereis added.
He said the airline is working closely with partners including Air Vanuatu, the Espiritu Santo Tourism Association, and the Vanuatu Tourism Office to promote key routes, particularly to Santo from Brisbane.
Solomon Airlines now offers same-day flights and schedules allowing 7-day itineraries. By April 2026, the airline will launch a second Santo service in time for Easter. The airline reports strong demand for Port Vila flights from New Zealand, noting the destination is only three hours from Auckland.
