SINU receives tech boost from Australia to enhance education quality through the SET and AASI programs.
The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) Faculty of Education and Humanities (FEH) and Office of Research and Postgraduate studies (ORPS) has received a technology boost with the delivery of ten laptops, one desktop computer, four projectors, one printer, audio visual equipment and other accessories through the Solomon Islands-Australia Education Partnership
The new equipment, funded through Australia’s SET and Australia Awards Solomon Islands (AASI) programs, represents a significant investment in the teaching capabilities of the FEH and the ORPS.
The 8-year, SBD 240 million ‘Stronger Education Together’ (SET) program, launched in April 2025, will improve equitable school access and enhance the quality of education across Solomon Islands.
The new equipment will enhance SINU’s learning environment, benefiting staff and students through improved professional development opportunities, and will lead to better educational outcomes for Solomon Islands students.
Dr Tristan Armstrong, Counsellor for Human Development at the Australian High Commission said Australia is committed to strengthening the capacity of SINU to deliver high quality, inclusive and industry-relevant education at the national level.

In today’s digital world, proficiency in computer skills is essential for achieving academic and professional success.
Assisting SINU to realise its ICT goals will strengthen academic outcomes while accelerating the social and economic development of Solomon Islands.
Dr. Eric Katovai, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) highlighted Australia’s continued support to strengthen the quality and relevance of education at SINU.
“This investment in digital infrastructure will greatly enhance the teaching and learning experience for both staff and students within the Faculty of Education and Humanities,” Katovai said.
“It is a clear demonstration of Australia’s commitment to helping us create a more inclusive, responsive, and future-ready national university.”
Speaking at the handover event, FEH Dean Dr. Patricia Rodie expressed deep appreciation for the support,noting that the equipment will meaningfully enhance the faculty’s capacity to deliver quality teacher education and support the development of teacher education programs under the SET initiative.
Together, SINU and Australia are investing in the future of Solomon Islanders —fostering innovation, sustainable development, and national progress through education and capacity building.
Australia is also supporting SINU through other capacity-building initiatives under the Australia Awards Solomon Islands (AASI) program.
