PM Jeremiah Manele meets Solomon Islands diaspora in Honolulu ahead of Pacific Summit in Hawaii.
Honolulu, Hawaii, Saturday 21 February 2026 – Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele today met with members of the Solomon Islands diaspora community in Honolulu during an informal gathering aimed at strengthening ties with Solomon Islanders living abroad.
The Solomon Islands diaspora community in Honolulu comprises students, as well as Solomon Islanders working and living in Hawaii with their families, including respected members of the community such as Dr. Tarcisus Tara, Dr. Joe Foukona, and Dr. Tami Tabe, who are currently working at the University of Hawaiʻi.
The Prime Minister and his delegation were treated to a warm welcome ceremony led by Dr. Tara, a Solomon Islander who has lived in Honolulu for more than two decades.

The engagement provided an opportunity for the Prime Minister and members of the Solomon Islands delegation to network and interact with the local Solomon Islands community, while also hearing firsthand their perspectives on national issues and development priorities.
“It is always a pleasure to meet our communities in any country that we travel to. It is an opportunity not only for us to hear from them, but also for them to hear from us,” Prime Minister Manele said.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Minister for Finance and Treasury, Hon. Rexson Ramofafia; Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Peter Shanel Agovaka; Minister for National Planning and Development Coordination, Hon. Trevor Manemahaga; Madam Manele; and senior government officials travelling with the Prime Minister.
