Kirakira Police boat ramp and shed near completion, boosting maritime operations in Makira Ulawa Province.

Construction work on the new Kirakira Police Boat Ramp and Stubby Shed is nearing completion, with the project expected to be finalized by the end of July.
The construction, which began in May 2025, is being carried out by HD Buildings, a locally owned construction company. The project is fully funded by the Australian Government as part of its ongoing support for law enforcement infrastructure in Solomon Islands.
Site Manager Damien Hodges of HD Buildings reported steady progress at the site.
“We’re committed to delivering this facility for the Kirakira police. The ramp and shed will support improved marine access and safer operations for patrol teams,” Mr. Hodges said.
Upon completion, the new boat ramp and shed are expected to enhance the operational capacity of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in the province, particularly in responding to maritime incidents, monitoring coastal activities, and supporting community safety.
Local authorities and police representatives have acknowledged the project as an example of collaborative efforts between development partners and local businesses in addressing rural infrastructure needs.
The facility is part of a broader set of initiatives supported by the Australian Government, aimed at strengthening provincial policing and law and justice services.
Project completion remains on track for the end of July 2025.
