Vura Road in East Honiara will undergo full rehabilitation under the CAUSE II project, improving roads, drainage, and access.
Vura Road in East Honiara is set for a full rehabilitation under the Community Access and Urban Services Enhancement Project (CAUSE II).
The Ministry of Infrastructure Transport Infrastructure Management Service Division, in a statement, assures Vura residents and road users that the much-awaited road upgrade for this East Honiara sealed road network will be rehabilitated after discussions were finalized with CAUSE II project management.
CAUSE II project upcoming tenders for Honiara will include the Vura road and drainage, stretching from Kukum SDA up to Kobito intersection and down to Naha police station.
It will also include upgrading the Kobito Bridge.
“They are still in the design stage, so expect a contractor to expedite works around the third quarter of this year.”
Component 1 of this Solomon Islands Government project, supported by the World Bank and Australia, focuses on improving and maintaining key road networks across Honiara’s Central Business District, peri-urban communities, and Auki, Gizo, Munda, and Noro.
Kramer Asia Pacific, the designing consultant for Component 1, will soon unveil the detailed design for these civil projects.
In the meantime, to address the current deteriorating condition of the Vura road stretch, a contractor will be mobilized soon to undertake urgent repairs for ease of traffic and smooth traveling.
“Urgent repairs will be carried out shortly,” the statement said.
“We are aware of the growing frustration of East Honiara residents, and again, rest assured, we will get the road fixed.”
Routine road maintenance works on selected unsealed sections in East Honiara sourced from the government’s Enhanced Infrastructure Program (EIP) are also active and should resume shortly.
Lot 1 covers Zioke Road and Ranadi Crescent Road, Jackson Ridge Road, Baranaba Road, and Panatina Road.
Lot 2 includes Kobito Loop 1, April Ridge Road, Gilbert Camp 2 and 3 Roads, and Firehouse Road.
Some road networks for both lots have already been maintained, and those remaining should be this month and onwards till their contract lapses.
