Honiara residents were in a state of shock when a magnitude 7 earthquake struck this afternoon just a few kilometres out, southwest of Guadalcanal. An unusual sight along the streets of Honiara on a typical Tuesday afternoon. Most offices and shops stayed closed as small tremors and aftershocks continued to be felt well into the early afternoon. The newly renovated 6 storey Anthony Saru building, suffered a blow from the earthquake.
The met office had issued a NO TSUNAMI threat notice following the earthquake.
