Opposition Leader Matthew Wale welcomes Australia’s new High Commissioner Jeff Roach and discusses key bilateral issues.
Leader of Opposition Matthew Wale has welcomed Australia’s new High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Jeff Roach.
His Excellency Roach paid a courtesy visit to Wale at the Paul Tovua Complex, Parliament today.
Wale, in welcoming the new High Commissioner, acknowledged Australia’s ongoing support to Solomon Islands.
“Australia is an important partner. We share a deep, long history, and a people-to-people friendship with Australia. A valuable friend indeed,” the Opposition Leader said.
Wale further stated that the friendship with donor partners should not be measured by financial contributions alone, but by genuine interests.
High Commissioner Roach thanked Wale for taking the time to meet with him. He expressed that Australia values the friendship and partnership with Solomon Islands.
Roach also acknowledged the role of his predecessor and vowed to continue strengthening the good relationship with Solomon Islands and its people.
“Australia truly values the relationship with Solomon Islands,” he said.
Mr. Roach briefed the Opposition Leader on Australia’s ongoing support programs to Solomon Islands.
Brief discussions were also held on the security partnership between Solomon Islands and Australia.
