Parliamentary Wing Leader and Caretaker Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, Outlines Vision for United Solomon Islands
The Parliamentary Wing Leader of OUR Party and caretaker Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, recently presented the party’s five key policy priorities during the launch of their manifesto.
In his address, Sogavare highlighted the importance of national unity and social cohesion as fundamental policy goals for the party. He acknowledged existing challenges, including desires for greater autonomy and historical tensions, but affirmed the party’s commitment to addressing these issues within the framework of a united Solomon Islands. Sogavare also referenced recent amendments to the constitution aimed at facilitating dialogue and unity.
In governance and infrastructure, Sogavare outlined the party’s objectives in enhancing the rule of law, governance systems, and public service efficiency. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with bilateral partners to strengthen institutions such as the police force and improve overall governance.
Socio-economic growth emerged as another key focus, with the party aiming to leverage international initiatives for transformative infrastructure development. Sogavare pledged investment in telecommunications and road infrastructure, with an eye toward renewable energy and social sectors such as sports and health.
Additionally, the party says they are committed to reviewing the tax regime, reforming state-owned enterprises, and fostering employment opportunities. National defense, security, and trade were also highlighted as priorities, with a commitment to a pragmatic foreign policy that maintains relations with both China and traditional partners like Australia.
Finally, land and resource empowerment and development were emphasised as central to the party’s agenda. Sogavare said the party’s dedicated to facilitating economic development while safeguarding the interests of resource owners.
Sogavare expressed confidence in the party’s ability to deliver on its promises, emphasizing the experience of its members and their commitment to serving the people of the Solomon Islands.
