Monitoring team inspects progress on Bellona Wharf Project under LMCP; completion expected by July 2026.

A joint team has successfully conducted a three-day monitoring mission from 8th to 10th July to oversee the progress of the Ahanga Wharf Project on Bellona Island of the Rennell Bellona Province, which is funded under the Land Maritime Connectivity Project (LMCP).
The team, comprising representatives from the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID), Asian Development Bank (ADB), Katahira Consultant Office, and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), also facilitates the inaugural meeting of the project’ Community Advisory Committee (CAC).
During the following two days, the team inspected various aspects of the camp, including accommodation facilities, storage sheds for materials and fuel, workshop buildings, security fencing, and security housing.
Machinery and construction materials, including 300 steel pipes, were properly stored on site.
MID Safeguards consultant George Maere highlighted that accommodations and storage facilities were over 97% complete and expected for full completion by the end of this month.
Mr. Maere added that the monitoring team also attended the first regular meeting of the project’ Community Advisory Committee (CAC).
“This meeting provides a window whereby project updates were shared by the visiting team and solutions to address concerns raised by the CAC members were looked into.”
“Rennell Bellona Premier was also briefed in Honiara on the project’s progress and objectives prior to the trip,” Mr. Maere said.
This SBD55.8 million Bellona Wharf project, part of the Maritime Component of the LMCP, is supported by funding from both the Asian Development Bank and the Solomon Islands government. This underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing national transport infrastructure, critical for economic and social development in rural and remote areas.
It is scheduled for completion by July 2026.
