Music ecosystem was the topic of discussion in a UNESCO work plan inception workshop for musicians. Music ecosystems are the conditions that make it possible for music to thrive in communities and the study of these conditions impacts, both positive and negative. Culture Director, Dennis Marita was lead facilitator of this half day workshop held at the Heritage Park Hotel. Marita said musicians are finding it difficult to thrive in the country because the music sector is not formalized. He said in order to formalize the music sector, there needs to be proper collation of data of musicians in Solomon Islands. Solomon Islands is popular in the region for its music but the industry is faced with a lot of challenges. The contribution of music artists is huge but musicians hardly get the recognition they need for the role they play in representing the country in the industry. The workshop was also an opportunity for the musicians to share the common challenges they face in the country.
