Prime Minister Sogavare attributes government successes to the prayers of faithful citizens and recognizes dedicated public officers
The Democratic Coalition Government for Advancement (DCGA) officially entered caretaker mode on 1 January 2024. Comprising the OUR Party, Kadere Party, Democratic Alliance Party, and Peoples First Party, the DCGA assumed power in April 2019 through a coalition government agreement. The foundational principles of the DCGA, articulated in their policy statement, are centered on advancing key priorities to foster prosperity, unity, and peaceful coexistence within the nation.
The DCGA’s policy envisions a “Peaceful, Progressive, Prosperous, and United Solomon Islands.” The extent of the policy’s realization remains to be measured. However, the government has encountered controversy, particularly surrounding decisions such as the diplomatic shift from Taiwan to China, signing of a security agreement between China and Solomon Islands, the extension of the 11th parliament’s term by six months and controversies surrounding the Economic Stimulus Package. The main highlight for the DCGA however was the hosting of the 17th Pacific Games in Honiara, the first time ever for the country to host the Pacific Games.
As the 11th Parliament concludes its official term, the DCGA expressed gratitude to God for guiding the nation during its tenure. Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare attributed the government’s successes to the prayers of faithful Christians and members of religious organizations, acknowledging their commitment to seeking divine guidance. The Prime Minister also recognized a dedicated group of public officers who assembled for daily prayers at the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
Reflecting on the past, Prime Minister Sogavare emphasized the significance of God’s guidance during challenging periods, underscoring the pivotal role played by religious leaders in providing spiritual support to the government. The Prime Minister conveyed gratitude for the collaborative efforts that have contributed to the nation’s well-being.
Solomon Islands is anticipated to hold elections in April 2024, marking a crucial juncture in the country’s political landscape.
