A former MP Alex Lionel Qora launched his election campaign simultaneously with candidate Conrad Rore on Wednesday, March 20th. Qora’s campaign launch took place at Maravari Village, while Rore’s took place at Eleoteve Village, both situated in the South Vella Constituency of the Western Province.
Qora is affiliated with the Democratic Alliance Party (DAP) and is aligned with the ‘CARE’ coalition, comprising the Solomon Islands Democratic Party (SIDP) under Matthew Wale’s leadership and the Democratic Alliance Party (DAP) led by Rick Houenipwela. On the other hand, Rore is contesting the election as an Independent candidate, with a ladder as his symbol.
For candidates under the DAP banner, such as Rore, a primary focus of their agenda is the creation of 25,000 new jobs within the next four years. This target aims to stimulate economic growth and provide employment opportunities across various sectors. Additionally, DAP has pledged to address issues such as the rising cost of living, infrastructure development, healthcare provision, and education. The party has committed to providing free education from kindergarten to Solomon Islands National University (SINU) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for a specified period, while also emphasizing the importance of compulsory education from kindergarten to year 12.
Other candidates vying for the South Vella Constituency seat and who have already launched their campaigns include Ronald Ivupitu, a member of the Solomon Islands Democratic Party (SIDP). Meanwhile, other candidates, including caretaker MP Fredrick Qologeto, Dr. Hedrick Kuboto Kaniki of the Solomon Islands United Party (SIUP), and independent candidate Jacob Kwan, are yet to commence their campaigns.
