National Parliament Convenes for Inaugural Meeting Today, 12th Parliament Members to Take Oaths and Elect Speaker and Deputy Speaker
The national parliament is set to convene for its inaugural meeting today, Friday, May 17th. On this occasion, members of the 12th Parliament will begin their parliamentary journey by taking their oaths, officially qualifying them to carry out their duties as members of the highest legislative body in the country. Following the administration of oaths, the members will proceed to elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker for the 12th Parliament.
Speaker Patteson Oti will preside over the administration of oaths for all members during the first sitting. Additionally, he will oversee the subsequent election of the new Speaker, ensuring a smooth transition of leadership within the Parliament.
While the national parliament has not yet disclosed the candidates for these positions, Tavuli News understands that Oti is also a candidate for the Speaker position, while former Guadalcanal Premier and newly elected Member of Parliament for North West Guadalcanal, Francis Sade is a candidate for the Deputy Speaker position.
