Rick Hou visits Solomon Islands workers in Australia, reaffirming support for labour mobility opportunities.
FOREIGN Affairs Minister Rick Hou today led a delegation of ministers and officials to visit Solomon Islands workers employed at Golden Cockerel in Australia.
During the visit, Minister Hou met with company representatives and workers, reaffirming the Government’s support for the labour mobility scheme.
Minister Hou highlighted the scheme’s ongoing importance, noting that it continues to provide employment opportunities for skilled Solomon Islanders while contributing significantly to the national economy.
“The scheme is not only creating jobs but also supporting families back home in Solomon Islands through remittances,” he said.
He further emphasised that Solomon Islands has a young and growing population, making labour mobility opportunities critical for employment and skills development.
Minister Hou also raised the importance of regularly reviewing working arrangements to ensure fair conditions and the wellbeing of Solomon Islands workers abroad.
In response, the company commended Solomon Islands workers, describing them as hardworking, reliable and committed to their roles.
The visit forms part of the Government’s continued engagement with employers to strengthen partnerships and improve outcomes for Solomon Islands workers overseas.
