SI Female Journalists To FIFA Women’s World Cup

Four female journalists from Solomon Islands to participate at the FIFA Women’s World Cup as part of their training in Broadcast Journalism and Sports Reporting.

Four female journalists from the Solomon Islands are set to make history by covering the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia. Eliza Kukuta and Cynthia Seda from the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation (SIBC), Mavis Podokolo from Island Sun, and Elizabeth Osifelo from Tavuli News as part of their training will participate as commentators in this prestigious event.

Over the past few months, these four journalists have been part of a group of female journalists from across the Pacific who actively engaged in a comprehensive Women in Media online training program. This initiative aimed to empower women in the media, particularly in sports journalism, and foster diverse voices in sports coverage.

Out of the 24 women journalists who took part in the training program, 12 participants, including the four from the Solomon Islands, have been selected to fly to Brisbane, Australia, to complete a two-week in-person training program under the Women in Media initiative. The training will commence on Monday, 24th July.

The region hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup has provided an extraordinary opportunity to showcase and uplift women in all aspects of football. This event promises to offer remarkable exposure to female journalists and reporters, allowing them to contribute their insights to the coverage of this international sporting event and shed light on women’s sports.

During their two weeks in Brisbane, the participants will divide their time between ABC International Studios and the Brisbane Stadium, one of the venues for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 matches. This experience will grant them the chance to learn from distinguished guest speakers and sports coverage experts, providing them with invaluable knowledge and hands-on experience.
