Government hosts the National Thanksgiving Service ahead of Solomon Islands’ 48th Independence celebrations
Honiara, 2 July 2026 – The Solomon Islands Government will host a National Thanksgiving Church Service this Sunday, 5th July 2026, at the Saint Barnabas Anglican Cathedral in Honiara to commemorate the country’s 48th Independence Anniversary.
The Government organises the service to give thanks to God for His protection and blessings upon the Solomon Islands and its people, and for national leadership since Independence on 7th July 1978.
The Hon. Prime Minister is scheduled to share his reflections during the service on God’s faithfulness to the nation over the past 48 years.
His Excellency the Governor-General, the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the National Parliament, the Chief Justice, Ministers of the Crown, Members of Parliament, and other dignitaries are expected to attend.
Public servants and members of all church congregations across Honiara are also encouraged to join the service.
The Thanksgiving Service is an annual program held ahead of the official Independence Anniversary celebrations on Tuesday, 7th July 2026.
The Government encourages Christians throughout the Nation to join in the service through Live Broadcast and Live streaming on SIBC Radio and Online TV.
The service starts from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
