Government Strategy Aims to Revitalize Agriculture in Choiseul Province.
The Tarekukure Copra and Cocoa Buying Center was reopened on Friday 11 October 2024 by Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele, providing new opportunities for farmers in Choiseul Province. This facility aims to enhance the agricultural sector by offering farmers better access to market services and fair prices for their products.
The Prime Minister recognized the contributions of local landowners who made their land available for this center, which is expected to benefit many families in the area. “We want to see Choiseul farmers prosper, your children go to school, and your community grow stronger,” PM Manele stated, highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting local agriculture.
With Choiseul being a significant producer of cocoa and copra, the reopening of the Buying Center is seen as a crucial step in improving the livelihoods of local farmers. The facility will allow them to sell their products more easily and reduce their reliance on transportation to Honiara.
This initiative is part of the Government for National Unity and Transformation’s (GNUT) strategy to revitalize the agriculture sector from 2021 to 2027. It emphasizes improving infrastructure and resources for farmers, which will have a positive impact on the community.
The Tarekukure Buying Center joins other similar facilities opened across the country, reflecting a commitment to support agricultural development in rural areas. As the center begins operations, it is expected to empower farmers and contribute to the economic growth of Choiseul Province.
