Opposition Leader Manasseh Sogavare meets Chinese Communist Party delegation to discuss bilateral ties and cooperation
The Leader of the Official Opposition, Hon. Manasseh Damukana Sogavare, MP, received a courtesy call from a delegation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC), led by Mr. ZHAO Hongtao, Deputy Director General, Bureau for North American, Oceanian and Nordic Affairs, International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC).
The meeting provided an opportunity for the Parliamentary Opposition and IDCPC to exchange views on a range of issues of common interest, including global and regional developments, the Global Civilization Initiative, Sovereign Equality, Foreign policy, the importance of dialogue and cooperation in promoting peace, development, and mutual understanding among others.
Discussions also covered the growing bilateral relations between Solomon Islands and the People’s Republic of China, including the implementation of existing bilateral agreements and cooperation in areas that contribute to Solomon Islands’ national development.
Hon. Sogavare acknowledged the People’s Republic of China’s sincerity and commitment in advancing its relationship with Solomon Islands through mutual respect, equality, and practical cooperation. He noted that the partnership has continued to develop on the basis of shared interests, mutual benefit and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.
The Opposition Leader reaffirmed the importance of maintaining constructive engagement with all international partners in support of Solomon Islands’ independent foreign policy and national development priorities.
The visiting delegation leader Mr. ZHAO expressed China’s readiness to continue practical cooperation, promoting dialogue, mutual trust and exchanges that promotes Solomon Islands holistic advancement.
