PM Matthew Wale meets U.S. Deputy Secretary to deepen ties and discuss Bina Harbour and development cooperation
Prime Minister Matthew Wale today met with United States Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau at the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong and enduring partnership between Solomon Islands and the United States.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Wale highlighted the long-standing historical ties between the two countries and reiterated his Government’s commitment to strengthening relations with all international partners.
Bina Harbour was the key topic of the discussions with the U.S deputy secretary highlighting U.S keen interest in supporting the project.
Both leaders have agreed to advance discussions on this front going forward.
The Prime Minister also outlined the Government’s key priorities for the next two years, highlighting opportunities for enhanced cooperation in the energy sector, as well as engagement under the U.S. Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
Deputy Secretary Landau welcomed the Government’s renewed approach to international partnerships and emphasised the importance of the bilateral relationship.
He reaffirmed the United States’ readiness to support Solomon Islands through DFC and MCC programs to expand development opportunities.
He further encouraged Solomon Islands to actively engage with the American private sector to unlock new investment opportunities that deliver tangible benefits for the people of Solomon Islands.
The meeting marks another important step in deepening cooperation and advancing shared interests between Solomon Islands and the United States.
