MMERE welcomes Sogavare’s support for bauxite probe and backs investigation into 33 shipments for accountability.
THE Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification (MMERE) has welcomed Opposition Leader Hon. Manasseh Sogavare’s support for the ongoing investigations into the 33 bauxite shipments.
In a statement released today, MMERE said it appreciates the Opposition Leader’s backing, noting his leadership as Prime Minister at the time the controversial shipments took place.
“We welcome the support and encourage him to provide any information that could assist our investigations, given his position as Prime Minister at the time,” the statement adds.
MMERE acknowledged and commended the GREAT Coalition Government for its decision to undertake a thorough and transparent investigation into the issue.
The Ministry further noted that it is regrettable that earlier administrations did not initiate or advise on the necessary steps to address the matter.
The ministry underscores the importance of the current investigation in establishing accountability and clarity.
MMERE reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the investigation is conducted with integrity and in the national interest.
