MSG, SIFF LAUNCH YOUTH LEGACY PROGRAMME

Honiara, Solomon Islands – 26 May 2026 – The Melanesian Spearhead Group [MSG] Secretariat and the  Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) today signed a partnership agreement to implement the MSG  Prime Ministers’ Cup Legacy Programme, targeting youths aged 10 to 15 years across the Solomon Islands. 

The agreement formalizes collaboration between the MSG and SIFF to roll out the youth development  initiative through SIFF’s technical structure and a network of 5 pilot schools – including two rural schools,  two urban schools in Honiara and one peri-urban school on the outskirts of Honiara. 

Under the programme, MSG will provide strategic oversight and funding support, while SIFF will lead on ground delivery, coaching, and coordination with the selected schools. The legacy programme is uniquely  crafted to integrate football with cultural activities and hands-on life development skills and to push their  educational interest and performance. This approach aims to strengthen the students’ personal growth and  support improved educational performance, ensuring the initiative delivers benefits beyond the field.

“It aligns with our commitment to grow the game at the grassroots level and give more young Solomon  Islanders access to quality football opportunities, cultural learning, and life skills, no matter where they live.” 

The pilot phase will commence with plans to expand the programme to other MSG member countries in  future editions of the Prime Ministers Cup.
