PM Manele confirms $41M funding for Malaita roads and bridges under SIRAP II infrastructure pipeline projects
Honiara, Solomon Islands, Thursday 2 April 2026 – Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ongoing infrastructure development in Malaita Province, outlining a pipeline of projects to be delivered under the Second Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP II).
Speaking yesterday during the handing over of the Su’u and Bira bridges, the Prime Minister confirmed that additional World Bank-supported financing of approximately USD 41 million (around SBD 330 million) is being secured to support new infrastructure developments in the province.
Planned projects include:
- Construction of the Fiu River Bridge
- Road sealing from Kwaisuliniu to Dala Market Junction
- Upgrading of the road link between Kilu’ufi Hospital and Guwaunaru’u Airfield
- Replacement of Dala and Fote bridges with modern structures
The Prime Minister also noted that procurement processes are progressing for additional works, including:
- Sealing of 12 kilometres of road from Guanaru’u to Kwaisuliniu
- Rehabilitation of 21 kilometres of East Road from Baratalo to Atori to climate-resilient standards
Prime Minister Manele said these investments reflect the Government’s broader vision to deliver infrastructure that is resilient, inclusive, and supportive of long-term development.
He added that the Government has also committed more than SBD 40 million through the National Transport Fund for infrastructure maintenance across Malaita.
The Prime Minister reiterated the importance of strong partnerships between the National Government, Malaita Provincial Government, development partners, and communities in delivering such projects.
